Karmann doesn't normally charge in public, but decided to try out the new Envision Solar EV Charger in downtown Shasta Lake, California.

Equipped with one Level II J1772 charge cord and a GFI 120 volt outlet, the Envision Solar EV Charger is centrally located on the main drag of town (Shasta Dam Blvd.).


Karmann normally charges using 120 volts, so she plugged in and tasted solar charging for the first time.  Now to find a way to move this thing closer to the shop, so she is out of the sun, but charging from sunshine.

Now to convince the City that Level III Fast Charging is the game changer.  Of course I have been telling them that for years.  I guess this will have to do for now.  EV4U offered free Level II charging at our shop for years.

Featured in the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car?"  The EV 1 was produced from 1996-1999.

Only 1,117 were produced.  They originally were leased only in Southern California and Arizona.  San Francisco, Sacramento, and Atlanta, Georgia were later added.  The cars were never sold, only leased, through Saturn dealerships.  Only about 40 exist today.  Check out the movie to see why.

It's not just batteries that have changed, but also chargers.
Check out this early GE unit.

The 1914 Detroit Electric featured 68 batteries and had a range between 50 and 85 miles.  Cost new, $2,500.

This pump was built on September 22, 1930.  By the late 1920s, electric meter-type pumps were rapidly replacing the visible-register models.  Loosely known as clock-face pumps.  Remember, you don't need no stinkin gas.  EV4U can show you how to stop using gas.  www.EV4Unow.com

This is an example of a visible pump that was built in 1924.  These pumps first appeared around 1915.  Gasoline was pumped from underground tanks into a visible glass cylinder above the pump.  The operator watched the level of gas in the cylinder and stopped the flow when the gas reached the desired amount.
