So who thinks electric cars are slow?
Running a little late to a meeting, so I bumped it up a bit. Suddenly it hit me, photo op!
That's not the top speed either, but when you're driving an orange Karmann Ghia you don't want to stick out too much. Not bad for a Curtis 500 amp controller and an ImPulse 9 motor. This is our Commuter Package, if you want to go fast we can arrange that too. EV4Unow.com

Some of our YouTube viewers asked for a video of the Karmann Ghia running on the Freeway. So in this weeks episode of the EV Answer Man we take the Ghia on a short Freeway run from our shop to the Sundial Bridge (20 miles). Unfortunately it was a cold and rainy day. Would have been better if we had sunshine and blue sky. The Ghia cruised at 70+ mph and shows off the Commuter Package offered by EV4U Custom Conversions. By the way it started snowing 5 minutes after we made the video run.

In this weeks Episode, the EV Answer Man talks about Maintenance. He compares the maintenance requirements of an EV conversion with that of two different gasoline vehicles.
Next week is Thanksgiving, and the Answer Man is taking the week off. However, the following week he will be discussing Brushes. Be sure and tune in.

In Episode 5, the EV Answer Man addresses Aux. Batteries and D/C to D/C Converters.
Should you use an Aux. Battery?
How about only using a D/C to D/C Converter?
What is not addressed in the the video is running an alternator off of the motor aux. shaft.
Out of all of the options, it is the least desirable, for several reasons. 1) It requires a mounting setup that adds weight and a drive belt. 2) Adds a load on the motor. 3) Stops producing when you come to a stop, shifting all of the load to the aux. battery. 4) Takes up space in the engine bay.
5) Is not very attractive to look at. 6) Does not fit with EV4U's rule of Clean, Simple, and Reliable. Imagine what the Karmann Ghia engine compartment would look like with an alternator.

In this weeks episode of The EV Answer Man, Richard responds to the question, "What's the payback time?"
What's the payback time on your cell phone?
How about your TV?
How about the car you're driving now?
Funny thing, the only two items that regularly solicit that question are solar and electric vehicles. The show this week will answer the question.

I'm still wondering how high gas prices will have to go before folks figure out that it is cheaper to fill using a cord, rather than hose.
Electric vehicles are 7 to 8 times more efficient than gasoline powered cars. Electricity prices are very stable, gas prices are not. Plus I sure do not miss the craziness at the gas station. If you're interested in converting to electric, and have questions, contact EV4U at info@EV4Unow.com

$14.96 to drive over 1,200 miles. Actually I spent almost $24.00. Still, it sure beats going to the gas station. I spent less than ten dollars for charging at home, the photo is how much I spent charging at the shop. That's one month of gas free driving. Some days I drove over 60 miles, my normal average during the week is 25 miles per day. In my gas vehicle, $24.00 will only get me 150 miles.

We have heard it is coming. In some places it is already here. This photo was taken on March 31, 2012 in Pacific Grove, California. When does it pay to drive an electric car? Now! Think about this, a 6' x 16' solar array can generate enough power to run the average electric car 12,000 miles per year.

Convert your car to electric for $7500
That's right! It can be done, and we can show you how. Visit www.EV4Unow.com for more information. Check out our 3-Day Hands-On Conversion Workshops and our YouTube videos.
Drive 1,000 miles for less than $30
How much does it cost to drive your car? Well if you get 25 mpg driving around town, and you average 25 miles per day, and gas costs $4.00 per gallon, then it costs you $4.00 per day. That's $28 a week, $120 per month, and $1,440.00 per year. At $5.00 per gallon, it's $5.00 per day, $35 per week, $150 per month, and $1,800.00 per year just for fuel. If you drive an electric car, your cost would 75 cents per day, $5.25 per week, $22.50 per month and $270 per year. A difference of $1,530.00 per year. Of course, if you drive more, or if the cost of gas goes up (it will) then the saving get even greater. EV4U Custom Conversions can convert your car to electric or show you how to do it yourself. Visit www.EV4Unow.com for more information.

In was a beautiful sunny January afternoon and two 1974 VWs stretch their legs in Shasta Lake, California. Featured in the video are B.O.B., a 1974 VW Beetle, which is battery powered, and Karmann a 1974 VW Karmann Ghia powered by a 2050cc gasoline engine. The Bugs battery was down to 60% of capacity and still made impressive passes, even when compared to the pumped Karmann Ghia.
The Bug is currently for sale, and the Karmann Ghia is waiting to be converted to electric. For more information on both, check out
