So who thinks electric cars are slow?
Running a little late to a meeting, so I bumped it up a bit.  Suddenly it hit me, photo op!
That's not the top speed either, but when you're driving an orange Karmann Ghia you don't want to stick out too much.  Not bad for a Curtis 500 amp controller and an ImPulse 9 motor.  This is our Commuter Package, if you want to go fast we can arrange that too.  EV4Unow.com

Sunday, December 16, 2012

Some of our YouTube viewers asked for a video of the Karmann Ghia running on the Freeway.  So in this weeks episode of the EV Answer Man we take the Ghia on a short Freeway run from our shop to the Sundial Bridge (20 miles).  Unfortunately it was a cold and rainy day.  Would have been better if we had sunshine and blue sky.  The Ghia cruised at 70+ mph and shows off the Commuter Package offered by EV4U Custom Conversions.  By the way it started snowing 5 minutes after we made the video run.

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

In Episode 8 of the EV Answer Man series, we finish last weeks discussion on brushes and answer a question about transmissions.
Still time to sign up for our first Workshop for 2013.  January 14, 2013 is the date for EV4U's 1-Day Educational Workshop.  Learn about the components used in conversions as well as an overview of the conversion process.  Our very popular 3-Day Hands-On Conversion Workshops start in May.  Classes fill up fast, so it is a good idea to register as soon as possible.  Visit EV4Unow.com for details and to register.

Have you ever wanted to know more about Electric Vehicles?  Would you like to be able to convert a gasoline car to electric?
EV4U Custom Conversions offers a 1-Day Educational Workshop, 3-Day Hands-On Conversion Workshops, and a video "How to Convert from Gas to Electric, the Complete Video".  All designed to give you the knowledge and tools so you can do your own conversion.  Or they can do it for you.  EV4Unow.com
Coming up this month on EV4U's YouTube Channel.
Freeway run in the Electric Karmann Ghia.
DC motor brushes.  More from the EV Answer Man.  Calculating battery pack size using range desired and vehicle weight.  Poker Run Fun Package and much more.

Saturday, November 17, 2012

In this weeks Episode, the EV Answer Man talks about Maintenance.  He compares the maintenance requirements of an EV conversion with that of two different gasoline vehicles.
Next week is Thanksgiving, and the Answer Man is taking the week off.  However, the following week he will be discussing Brushes.  Be sure and tune in.
Happy Thanksgiving
In Episode 5, the EV Answer Man addresses Aux. Batteries and D/C to D/C Converters.
Should you use an Aux. Battery?
How about only using a D/C to D/C Converter?
What is not addressed in the the video is running an alternator off of the motor aux. shaft.
Out of all of the options, it is the least desirable, for several reasons.  1)  It requires a mounting setup that adds weight and a drive belt.  2)  Adds a load on the motor.  3)  Stops producing when you come to a stop, shifting all of the load to the aux. battery.  4)  Takes up space in the engine bay.
5)  Is not very attractive to look at.  6)  Does not fit with EV4U's rule of Clean, Simple, and Reliable.  Imagine what the Karmann Ghia engine compartment would look like with an alternator.

Have you ever tried making your own gasoline?
I don't recommend it.
You can however make your own electricity.  Plus it will power your home and car.

I'm still wondering how high gas prices will have to go before folks figure out that it is cheaper to fill using a cord, rather than hose.
Electric vehicles are 7 to 8 times more efficient than gasoline powered cars.  Electricity prices are very stable, gas prices are not.  Plus I sure do not miss the craziness at the gas station.  If you're interested in converting to electric, and have questions, contact EV4U at info@EV4Unow.com

"How-to Convert from Gas to Electric, the Complete Video"
EV4U presents to the ultimate How-to video for converting a gasoline vehicle to electric.  Not just how-to, but why you want to choose certain components for compatibility, speed, range, etc.
All the information you need to know to make good decisions, and do it right the first time.  On sale now at www.EV4Unow.com
Starting in January 2013, EV4U Custom Conversions will be offering 1 Day Educational Workshops.  Visit our website at www.EV4Unow.com for dates and information.
$14.96 to drive over 1,200 miles.  Actually I spent almost $24.00.  Still, it sure beats going to the gas station.  I spent less than ten dollars for charging at home, the photo is how much I spent charging at the shop.  That's one month of gas free driving.  Some days I drove over 60 miles, my normal average during the week is 25 miles per day.  In my gas vehicle, $24.00 will only get me 150 miles.
Saturday, September 8, Karmann will be at the Chico Chapter EAA meeting.  Stop by if you want to take a ride in an electric car.  Fast, quiet, and no gas.
Sunday, September 9, B.O.B. will be at the Chico Concours d'Elegance for a fourth year.  Last year he took First Place in class.  This year he's not entered in the judging.  Stop by and say hi, and learn how you too can drive without gas.

Saturday, August 25, 2012

EV4U Custom Conversions will be attending the Bugorama in Sacramento on September 2.  Have not yet decided on which car will be going.  Will it be B.O.B. or Karmann?  Stop by and say hi.
Still time to sign up for the September 22-24 Workshop.  Three days of instruction and hands on opportunity.  Get the information and insights to be able to convert your vehicle of choice to a simple, efficient, economical electric vehicle.

We have heard it is coming.  In some places it is already here.  This photo was taken on March 31, 2012 in Pacific Grove, California.  When does it pay to drive an electric car?  Now!  Think about this, a 6' x 16' solar array can generate enough power to run the average electric car 12,000 miles per year.

Convert your car to electric for $7500

That's right!  It can be done, and we can show you how.  Visit www.EV4Unow.com for more information.  Check out our 3-Day Hands-On Conversion Workshops and our YouTube videos.

Drive 1,000 miles for less than $30

How much does it cost to drive your car?  Well if you get 25 mpg driving around town, and you average 25 miles per day, and gas costs $4.00 per gallon, then it costs you $4.00 per day.  That's $28 a week, $120 per month, and $1,440.00 per year.  At $5.00 per gallon, it's $5.00 per day, $35 per week, $150 per month, and $1,800.00 per year just for fuel.  If you drive an electric car, your cost would 75 cents per day, $5.25 per week, $22.50 per month and $270 per year.  A difference of $1,530.00 per year.  Of course, if you drive more, or if the cost of gas goes up (it will) then the saving get even greater.  EV4U Custom Conversions can convert your car to electric or show you how to do it yourself.  Visit www.EV4Unow.com for more information.

In was a beautiful sunny January afternoon and two 1974 VWs stretch their legs in Shasta Lake, California.  Featured in the video are B.O.B., a 1974 VW Beetle, which is battery powered, and Karmann a 1974 VW Karmann Ghia powered by a 2050cc gasoline engine.  The Bugs battery was down to 60% of capacity and still made impressive passes, even when compared to the pumped Karmann Ghia.
The Bug is currently for sale, and the Karmann Ghia is waiting to be converted to electric.  For more information on both, check out

Chico EAA

The Chico, California Chapter of the Electric Auto
Association held its first meeting of 2012 on Saturday, January 14th.  We discussed what we would like to do as a group for 2012.  It was decided that we would start holding meetings monthly instead of every other month.  It was also decided that we would do some hands on projects.
We started the year by removing the internal combustion components on a members Chevy Luv pickup.  The Chico Chapter meets the second Saturday of every month.  Contact richard@EV4Unow.com for more information.

Speaking of Hands-On, be sure and visit
